Meet Asa Tate, grateful recipient of AFP scholarship

AFP Advancement Northwest

Did you know that more than 150 fundraising professionals received scholarships to attend international conferences and other fantastic training opportunities this past year – all thanks to BE the CAUSE, a joint campaign of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and AFP chapters across the U.S.?

One of those professionals was AFP Advancement Northwest's Asa Tate, whose 2015 Chamberlain Scholarship made it possible for her to attend AFP's International Conference for the first time in her career, which spans nearly two decades.

"It was amazing to be surrounded by thousands of my peers and thought leaders who are passionate about philanthropy, investing in causes and making the world a better place," says Asa, Director of Philanthropy & Mission Achievement at Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington.

Asa broadened her network by making new and valuable connections at the 2015 conference in Baltimore, and walked away feeling inspired with fresh ideas about the importance of setting the stage for meaningful giving.

"I'm a true believer in the philosophy that you get what you ask for and what you measure," Asa says. "We have the opportunity at each of our organizations to tell our stories and set the bar for how people can get involved in powerful ways."

Scholarships are just one of the many ways that AFP Foundation supports the professional development of fundraisers like Asa. Learn more about BE the CAUSE on AFP Foundation's website

P.S. If you haven't received a phone call from AFP International Headquarters yet this summer, expect to hear from a national BE the CAUSE campaign volunteer in the coming weeks. And thank you for considering making your tax-deductible donation today!

P.P.S. The more our chapter donates toward BE the CAUSE – which recently passed the halfway mark toward the campaign's $500,000 goal for 2015 – the more AFP Advancement Northwest will benefit, by receiving a larger share of campaign revenue to support local scholarships and programs.
