Program Summary

A fun and accessible lesson on financial acumen for fundraising professionals. Using actual training materials and FareStart's own development profit and loss statement, learn about aspects of the financial condition you have always wondered about. We will decrypt annoying acronyms and share "rules-of-thumb" that will impress your CFO. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. How to "read" financial statements in general, understanding the differences between them.
  2. How typical fundraising issues (e.g. restrictions) end up in the financial statements.
  3. How to link with finance departments to create powerful alliances.
  4. Share perspectives on issues you are facing in your role as fundraising professionals.

Target Audience: 

Fundraising professionals in the nonprofit space who want to bone up on their financial chops or learn fresh how their work is integrated into their nonprofits overall financial condition.


Ryan Dean, FareStart

Ryan Dean joined FareStart in 2017 as the Chief Financial Officer after spending nearly twelve years as Director of Finance and Administration at the Seattle Aquarium. Prior to the Seattle Aquarium, Ryan held senior finance positions at IBM, Real Networks, Sequent Computers, and Boston Market. He holds a Masters in International Management and a bachelor's degree in Finance. Ryan is an avid cyclist and ultimate Frisbee player. He coaches youth ultimate in the Seattle Public Schools in his free time.
